- LECTURES:
Thursday, 12:00-14:30, Burnside 1234.
- COURSE DESCRIPTION:
We shall discuss metrics on Riemannian manifolds and graphs that are
extremal for various "geometric" and "spectral" functionals such as
girth/systole length, eigenvalues of the Laplacian, isoperimetric
constants etc (and other functionals such as determinant of Laplacian
if time permits). We shall also consider extremal metrics in conformal
classes and other "restricted" problems.
- Assignments, Grading
There will be a few assignments and an oral presentation (30 minutes or so)
on one of the topics suggested by the instructor. The grades will be based
on your assignments and presentation.
- Possible themes for Presentation
