Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligble to participate?

All McGill undergraduate students who are interested in Math are eligible. Although, Math majors will be prioritized in the application process.

What's expected from a DRP student?

Students will be paired with a mentor who will guide them through the reading project. The expectation is that students will meet their mentor once a week during the semester, and will spend an average of 4 hours every week on their project outside of these meetings. At the end of the semester, students should submit a short write-up summarizing and explaining their presentation.

When does the DRP run?

The program runs every winter semester. Typically applications will open early November and closing around the start of December.

Are there any prerequisites required for the DRP?

There are no prerequisites for the DRP. Different mentors will propose projects with a wide range of knowledge required. It is generally helpful to have taken some of the first proof based courses such as Algebra and Analysis 1.

When should I apply for the DRP?

Applications are open to everyone, although it does help a lot to have already taken a few courses in Math and Stats. Priority is also given to people who have applied before but were not assigned a project.
